With two active (read: messy) kids under five, there are few things I dread more than the situation happening in my laundry every week.
It all starts civilised enough, with the basket only half full at the start of the week. I’ll do a few loads of washing and think: “I’ve got this. I can handle this.” Then a few busy days go by – a muddy playdate here, an incident with a permanent marker there, and don’t forget school sports – and by Friday, the pile resembles Mt Washmore so much that I’ve occasionally resorted to making it a climbing gym for the kids when I’m out of school holiday activity ideas. (I can’t prove it but I’m pretty sure it even breeds when our backs are turned.)
I promise myself that next week I’ll be more organised, but that day never quite comes, and I’m back to square one. The rest of the week is spent either avoiding it or thinking about it, and it becomes a constant source of stress at the bottom of my long to-do list. (And let’s be honest, folding laundry with a toddler is like trying to clean in a cyclone.)
It was at the point when I was pondering whether it would be easier to just put a star on the top of the pile and turn it into our annual family Christmas tree, that I decided to call Jim’s Laundry Services on 131 546.

They would then take it away to be washed, ironed and folded and returned the next day with free pickup and delivery. The instant after making the call I felt less stressed. The next day, the clothes returned at our doorstep freshly cleaned, ironed and folded – like magic. The best part was there were no missing pairs of socks – a constant struggle we previously had (where do they go?) and I was able to put the clothes away quickly as they came in different tubs – one for the kids and one for the adults. Jim’s even offer alteration services, and for those in a rush there is a same-day express service option.
Our lovely Jim’s Laundry representative stops by each Monday afternoon and the process is easy, stress-free and has made our chaotic life a little more calm. The kids may be disappointed their Mt Washmore jungle gym has gone, but I for one am happy to finally conquer that mountain and say goodbye to our laundry woes.
